Dundee’s Original Tapas Bar

Sol y Sombra has been Dundee’s original and favourite tapas bar since it opened in 2011. Born out of a childhood love for Spain and Spanish food we have created a menu of fresh, authentic and simple tapas. The aim is to recreate the atmosphere of a typical Spanish family meal, requiring everyone to share and enjoy the meal as one.
Our chefs use the morning’s freshly delivered ingredients to decide which dishes will be served that day. We can cater to all dietary requirements and pride ourselves in offering truly delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes. Our lunch set menu with cold and hot dishes is £22.50 per person and dinner is £31 per person (not including drinks and desserts). We also have the option of Hot tapas only with bread and Aioli for £17.50 for lunch and £26 at Dinner.
We have dining areas on the ground floor and first floor which boast a wide range of gins, beers, wines, spirits, cocktails and our signature sangria. Our expert staff are always on hand to help you find the perfect drink to accompany your tapas.

Our vouchers are very popular and the perfect gift for any occasion. They can be purchased online or in the restaurant. If you’d like to put a smile on someone’s face with a Sol y Sombra gift voucher please click here.

4 star ratingThe food was lovely, and the young man who served us was great. If I had a negative, it would be that we didn't receive any olives or salted snacks at our table of 4, and there was no bread for the people who were vegan, as the bread has an egg wash on. I feel for the price charged, we should have been given the full menu, as stated, and wonder if some food stuffs are pre packaged and not fresh, hence the bread already having eggs on. Overall it was a lovely evening but quite pricey, especially with some menu items not given.

5 star ratingA first-class visit to Sol Y Sombra. There's a brand new menu if you want to select the tapas dishes yourself, but you can still opt for the chef's selection, which is what we did, and no regrets. An excellent 'summary' of the menu dishes, a really good mix including for me as a vegetarian (there's also a whole page vegan menu by the way). Sometimes vegetarians can feel a bit left out, but there are so many inventive and imaginative dishes here. Not just the classic tapas you can get elsewhere. My favourites were the corn ribs, vegan meatballs, vege kebab, patatas bravas (done VERY well) but also loved all the cold starters. My husband, who eats meat and fish, said there were too many to choose a favourite and was impressed by all the exciting flavours. Also enjoyed a jug of red wine sangria which was delicious and better than some of the sangrias we just had in Barcelona last month! Service was bang-on - super friendly and informal but also professional. Can highly recommend.

5 star rating34 of us celebrated my 50th birthday here last week. We were welcomed with a glass of sangria and all seated upstairs in the amazing Spanish feeling restaurant. The food was epic and the staff were great. We had the fixed tapas meal and enough food was served to feed a small army. 🙂 Highly recommend this place and we'll definitely be back.
